Quentin Tarantino shares his opinion on the recently released new movies, criticizing them as “just stupid crap.” [that] Every new movie that comes out of the flavorless sausage factory that used to call itself Hollywood usually gets torpedoed.

the Pulp Fiction The director wrote a new editorial for Sight and sound Magazine, where he explained that since the pandemic, he can’t seem to find a new movie that he “wouldn’t pick to death.”

“Since the pandemic, for me anyway, it seems almost impossible for a new movie to come out that I don’t pick to death. Flaws, implausibility, pandering to the audience, poor casting or just plain stupid stuff usually torpedo every new movie that comes out of the flavorless sausage factory that used to call itself Hollywood,” he wrote. “These days, the whole concept of what a movie is tends to arouse more disdain in me than generosity. Which is fair enough, because compared to the movies of the past six years, it makes the movies of the 1980s look like the 1930s.”

Tarantino cited some films he’s seen since the pandemic that he “loved,” still noting that none of them really caught his attention — except for one.

“I’ve seen movies I’ve loved since – West Side Story (2021); Horizon: An American Epic – Chapters 1 and 2 “(Both 2024), and a few others, but nothing that really grabbed me and swept me away to the magical land of pleasure that I used to visit and was the reason I loved movies before all art forms. These days I’d rather read a book,” Tarantino said.

The “new thriller” that captured the Oscar and “kept it for its entire duration” was Joe Carnahan’s film. Rupture Produced by Netflix, it stars Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.

“The film is a cop thriller with a fresh premise that manages to deliver the goods in really clever ways,” Tarantino wrote of the film. Rupture. “The whole package worked for me: Carnahan’s direction, the great cast, the look of the film (courtesy of cinematographer Juan Miguel Azpiro) – but the real strong element in this wonderful package is the exciting screenplay by Carnahan and Michael McGrail.”

Rupture It recently made headlines as Damon and Affleck’s production company faces a defamation lawsuit from two Miami-Dade police officers who claim the film caused damage to their reputations because its content mixes fictional details with facts from their real-life experiences.

As for Tarantino, the director is in the midst of working on his first play. Knight Popinjaywhich will open in London’s West End in 2027. The show is described as a “rambunctious comedy of trickery and disguise inspired by the grand ego sagas of stage and screen.”
