A bench of Justices Vikram Nath, Shil Nagu and V Mohana rejected the bail application of the accused who was arrested in June 2022 in a case registered under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

“People who deal in drugs must be dealt with very strongly. They are ruining the lives of the youth of this country generation after generation,” Justice Nath observed while dismissing the plea.

The accused had moved the Supreme Court challenging an order passed by the Madras High Court in February this year.

The Supreme Court, which refused to grant him bail in this case, indicated that this was his sixth consecutive bail application.

According to the prosecution, on June 11, 2022, the petitioner and two others were standing with a bag, and when they saw the police, they tried to escape from the place.

It was alleged that 21 MDMA tablets weighing approximately 10.15 grams were found in the bag.

The prosecution said that based on the confessions of the petitioner and another accused, the third accused, who fled the scene, was also arrested.

Before the Supreme Court, the petitioner’s counsel submitted that the alleged contraband seized from him on June 11, 2022 was produced before the special court in Chennai only on July 5, 2022, and even then, the police kept it without any approval from the concerned trial court.

His lawyer said that although the Supreme Court had ordered the lower court in November 2024 to complete the trial within six months, the trial had not yet ended and the other accused had already been released on bail.

The lawyer representing the state had argued before the Supreme Court that three accused were involved in the case and the 10.15 grams of MDMA-ecstasy tablets allegedly seized from the petitioner fell under the commercial quantity.

The Supreme Court had rejected the bail application.
