Madhuri Dixit is returning to comedy after a long absence with her upcoming Netflix film ‘Maa Behen’, directed by Suresh Triveni. The actress said that keeping the scenes fresh in every shot is the hardest part of comedy, adding: “It has to feel like it’s happening for the first time.”
After a long break from comedy, Madhuri Dixit is all set to return to the genre with her upcoming film ‘Maa Behen’. The actress, who has explored all genres in her career spanning four decades, spoke about Suresh Triveni’s direction. She spoke about the joy of receiving new and exciting material at this stage of her career and also discussed the challenges that come with performing comedy.
Why Madhuri Dixit finds comedy harder than intense roles
Speaking to Hindustan Times, director Suresh Triveni said that comedy sets tend to be easier on actors because he doesn’t need them to maintain a high level of intensity during a long shooting day. However, Madhuri pointed out that comedy comes with its own set of challenges. “You can maintain strength all the time, but freshness — doing the same thing every time and keeping it fresh — is very difficult. Strength that you can sustain all day long.
You’re angry or sad, but in this (comedy), it has to feel like it’s happening for the first time. “This is difficult,” she said.
Madhuri Dixit talks about her history with comedy
Madhuri showcased her comic timing in some of the biggest masala hits of the 90s, including ‘Tezaab’, ‘Raja’ and ‘Dil’. “Those films had everything. There’s comedy, romance, full masala. It’s not that we couldn’t do it (comedy), but I didn’t do comedy in between. This was something I could sink my teeth into,” the actress said.
About “What’s wrong”
‘Maa Behen’ features Madhuri Dixit alongside Tripti Dimri, Dharna Durga and Ravi Kishan. The film is scheduled to stream on Netflix starting June 4.
