At least 56,800 candidates have qualified for admission into the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), according to the results announced on Sunday, May 31. A total of 1,87,389 candidates registered for JEE (Advanced), of which 1,79,694 appeared in both newspapers held on May 17.

Shubham Kumar from IIT Delhi region bagged first position in the Combined Rank List (CRL), scoring 330 out of 360. Among the female candidates, Arohi Deshpande from IIT Delhi region emerged as the highest ranked candidate, securing 77 CRL with a score of 280.
“I have been preparing for JEE Advanced for the past two years and was hoping that my hard work will help me get a good rank. Now that I have secured the first rank in All India, I feel very happy,” Kumar told news agency PTI.
Candidates from IIT Delhi region also secured second and third positions, with Kabir Chhillar securing 329 marks and Jatin Chahar securing 319 marks.
The exam was conducted by IIT Roorkee on behalf of the Joint Admissions Board (JAB) on 17 May 2026.
Qualification and cut off marks
The total score for the exam was 360. Each paper carried 180 marks and each subject carried 120 marks. Candidates were required to meet minimum subject and overall scores to qualify for the ranking lists.
For the Common Rank List (CRL), candidates need to score at least 7.30 per cent for each subject and 25.56 per cent in aggregate, with a minimum of 8 marks per subject and 92 marks overall.
The cut-off rates varied across categories, with OBC-NCL and GEN-EWS requiring a total of 22.78 per cent, while SC, ST and PwD categories have lower qualifying marks. The Preparatory Course (PC) category has the lowest cut-off of 6.39 percent in aggregate and two marks per subject.
Toppers in the common rank list
Shubham Kumar, Kabir Chhillar, Jatin Chahar, Mohit Shekher Shukla, Kochi Sandeep, P Jayakrishna Srinivas, Arnav Gautam, Kanishk Jain, Medicity Naga Saharsha and Darsh Sikka emerged as top 10 candidates in the Combined Ranking List (CRL).
IIT Delhi dominated the list, securing several top ranks, while IIT Madras and IIT Bombay also had strong representation among the top achievers.
Classification list of all categories
Shubham Kumar from IIT Delhi emerged as the best in CRL. In the GEN-EWS category, B Jayakrishna Srinivas from IIT Bombay bagged the first position. In the SC category, Jatin Chahar from IIT Delhi took first place, while Kovid Boob from IIT Bombay topped the ST category.
Among the PWD categories, Jatin Kumar of IIT Delhi topped the list of CRL-PwD, Arsh Jain of IIT Kanpur topped the list of GEN-EWS-PwD, and Parva Pavan Agrawal of IIT Delhi topped the list of OBC-NCL-PwD.
In the SC-PwD and ST-PwD categories, Nanala Naga Chaitanya from IIT Madras and Navtej from IIT Roorkee secured top ranks respectively. Aanchal Puri of IIT Kanpur was also listed among the top performers in the PWD category rankings.
In 2025, a total of 1,86,584 students registered and 1,80,423 students appeared for the exam, of which 54,378 students qualified. About 9,900 female candidates qualified that year. The year 2026 records the highest number of qualifiers (56,880) in the history of JEE Advanced. The number of female qualifiers increased from 6,516 in 2022 to 10,107 in 2026, an increase of 55% in just 4 years.

The organizing institute also advised eligible candidates to participate in the counseling and seat allotment process in JoSAA 2026, by registering on josaa.nic.in, as the process will begin on June 2, 2026.
For IIT admissions, around 17,000 to 18,000 seats are available in 23 IITs. Admission will be based on All India Rank (AIR) in JEE Advanced along with category rankings, while NITs, IIITs and GFTIs will consider JEE Main rankings for admission.
