SINGAPORE: The United States, Britain and Australia are working together to develop unmanned undersea vehicles as part of the trilateral defense agreement OKOS, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told reporters on Saturday.Delivery of the vehicles will begin in 2027, Okos said in a joint statement. The program will improve the reconnaissance and strike capabilities of the three countries, “and enhance superiority in anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, mine countermeasures, electronic warfare, and contested littoral maneuvers,” the statement said. The program is part of Aukus’s so-called “second pillar” to develop advanced defense technology including quantum computing, undersea, hypersonics, artificial intelligence and cyber technology.“The landmark project will deliver a range of highly adaptable multi-mission UUV payloads designed to support subsea operations and maintain our collective advantage in the maritime domain,” Hegseth said.(This is a Reuters report)
