Congress leader Pawan Khera on Saturday criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Centre’s recent report before the Supreme Court regarding its oversight of the NEET-UG papers leak case, questioning accountability for repeated exam irregularities.

Speaking to ANI, Khaira said paper leaks continued despite previous controversies and wondered why intervention was made only after such incidents occurred.
“Why does the PM start monitoring only after something has already happened?… Paper leaks keep happening. It happened in 2024 as well, and even then the PM didn’t monitor it. Then it leaked again in 2026. So, whenever a paper leak happens now, will the PM resign? Take responsibility?” Pawan said well.
The Congress leader also questioned accountability within the Union government, targeting Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
“Dharmendra Pradhan is not responsible for anything anymore… Accountability for the past, Nehru ji’s responsibility, is one thing. But whose accountability is it today? Ask that in 2047… Who will answer for these children whose future has been destroyed?” Khaira said.
The Supreme Court on Friday directed the Centre, the Ministry of Education, to file a separate affidavit detailing the establishment of a mechanism through which the process of conducting and concluding NEET examinations will be institutionalized by the NTA on an annual basis.
A bench of Justices PS Narasimha and Alok Aradhe said the affidavit should explain how institutional memory and expertise were developed within the National Testing Agency (NTA) through the deployment of dedicated staff and a wide range of experts.
The court observed that the endeavor should be to ensure that the NTA “possesses the necessary material and intellectual means to prevent recurrence of incidents such as the NEET examination controversies in 2024 and 2026”. The affidavit has been directed to be filed within six weeks.
During the hearing, the court noted the reply(s) filed by NTA and SC Chairman, Dr K Radhakrishnan.
It is worth noting that Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre, informed the court that “the Prime Minister himself is monitoring the case.”
