Ranveer Singh Don 3 Controversy: FWICE now wants a formal framework to prevent actors quitting Bollywood

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has escalated the “Don 3” controversy by formally writing to major production bodies, including the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPA) and the Producers Guild of India, seeking collective action against what it calls a growing trend of actors pulling out of committed projects.

The move comes days after the federation issued a non-cooperation directive against actor Ranveer Singh over his last-minute exit from Farhan Akhtar’s film ‘Don 3’.

FWICE stands for “Growing Industry Pattern.”

In a detailed letter signed by FWICE president BN Tiwari, the union described the “Don 3” situation as part of a larger and worrying trend across the industry.According to an India Today report, the letter said: “…wants to place on record its grave concern over the increasing instances of major losses being incurred by producers due to last-minute withdrawal or disengagement of senior actors from committed projects without prior consultation, due induction or professional engagement with relevant stakeholders.”The union also warned that such departures in the “advanced stages of planning and pre-production” not only harm producers financially, but also disrupt the broader production ecosystem, affecting “the livelihood of artists, technicians and workers associated with such projects.”

FWICE calls for a joint meeting and binding standard operating procedures

Beyond resolving the current conflict, FWICE seeks to bring about structural change. The union called for a joint meeting with producing bodies to formulate comprehensive standard operating procedures (SOP) to deal with similar situations in the future.

Among the proposed measures are clear protocols governing the withdrawal of actors after formal commitment, institutional dispute resolution mechanisms, safeguards against sudden exits that cause financial damage, and “an industry-wide binding framework to ensure professional accountability and discipline.”

FWICE stressed that this issue requires “collective deliberations and constructive intervention by all relevant producing bodies so that an amicable and workable solution can be reached between the parties concerned in the greater interest of the industry.”

FWICE urges everyone to work as one family

The Union closed its letter with a memorandum of collective responsibility.“We, all stakeholders in the industry, collectively form part of one family and must come together to confront such challenges that pose a threat to the industry’s environment and economy in the future,” FWICE added, expressing confidence that “through collective dialogue and cooperation” the problem can be resolved while building stronger preventive mechanisms for the future.

More on the Don 3 conflict.

The financial risks of the ‘Don 3’ dispute have come into sharp focus, with FWICE confirming that the claimed losses amount to nearly Rs 45 crore, a figure that Excel Entertainment has reportedly demanded Ranveer Singh pay as damages. Industry talks have intensified following reports that significant investments had already been made during the film’s pre-production ahead of the alleged fallout.
