Convicted sex trafficking Ghislaine Maxwell should “die in prison” as questions persist over the handling of files linked to the late Jeffrey Epstein, former US Attorney Pam Bondi told House lawmakers on Friday.Bondi made the comments during a four-hour taped interview before the House Oversight Committee, which is currently investigating the Justice Department’s handling of records related to Epstein.Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon later told the New York Post that Bondi also made clear that Maxwell should never receive a presidential pardon.According to Dillon, Bondi said, “Females who cooperate with sex offenders are worse because they bring other victims to the sex offenders.”Bondi also called Maxwell “absolutely evil” and said she should serve the full prison sentence.Maxwell, 64, is currently serving a 20-year federal sentence after being convicted in 2021 on charges including sex trafficking conspiracy and trafficking of a minor. She was known to be an associate and former friend of Epstein.Epstein died in a Manhattan jail cell on August 10, 2019, while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges.
His death and the handling of records associated with his case have remained the focus of public scrutiny in the United States.Bondi’s appearance before lawmakers came amid her personal health battle. In a separate interview with CNN, the former prosecutor revealed that she had been diagnosed with thyroid cancer after leaving the Justice Department in April.She said she recently underwent surgery and is continuing treatment, but added that she is “in good condition nonetheless.”Bondi was removed from her position as attorney general by US President Donald Trump earlier this year, and Todd Blanche now serves as acting attorney general. Before her departure, Bondi faced criticism over her handling of the Epstein files.Despite leaving office, Bondi is expected to remain involved in public affairs. Axios reported that she will join the Presidential Council of Advisors in the field of science and technology. US Vice President J.D. Vance praised Bondi in a statement to CNN, saying: “Pam has been an extremely valuable asset to the president’s team, and I am happy for her and for all of us that she will remain engaged in confronting some of the most important issues facing the administration.”
