The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has postponed the launch of its portal for verification and revaluation of Class 12 answer sheets, pushing the date from May 29 to June 1, 2026.

In a statement published on X on Friday, the board said the decision has been taken to ensure a transparent and error-free process for students seeking to check and re-evaluate their answer books through the post-result activities portal.

“To ensure a transparent and error-free process for checking and re-evaluating the answer books of students intending to submit their applications on the Post-Results Activities Portal, it has been decided that the dedicated portal will now be functional from June 1, 2026. This is to ensure highest standards and evaluation protocols,” CBSE said.

The board also advised students with queries to contact the CBSE Distance Counseling Helpline at 1800 11 8004 or email resultscbse2026@cbseshiksha.in.

Confirming this development, a CBSE official told Hindustan Times that the portal will not open on Friday as expected earlier.

“CBSE will share an update on the restart of the portal. The portal will not be opened today. It will be opened on June 1 as we are still working on enhancing the website,” the official said.

The facility of verification and re-evaluation is only available to candidates who have already applied for and received scanned copies of the evaluated answer books.

The reopening of the portal on June 1 will mark the next stage of the post-result review process under the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system of CBSE, Education Department officials said.

According to officials, students who had earlier received scanned copies of their answer books will be able to raise objections to the questions if they believe they did not get proper marks.

“The portal will be reopened for the objections round. Students can challenge specific questions when they are not satisfied with the marks awarded. These questions will then be evaluated again and any change in marks, if justified, will be notified later,” an education ministry official said.

Officials explained that candidates will challenge individual questions rather than seeking a comprehensive review of the entire answer text.

As part of this process, students can request re-evaluation and then raise objections regarding the marking of questions. Once objections are submitted, selected answers will be evaluated again through the OSM system by subject matter experts. If discrepancies are found, the marks will be updated and the revised result will be communicated to the student, officials added.

As per CBSE guidelines, applicants will have to refer to the marking scheme for the respective subject, which is available on the board website along with the question paper. Candidates can then submit requests to re-evaluate specific questions with reasons supporting their claim.

Students were advised to compare their answers with the official marking scheme and clearly identify instances where marks may not be awarded even though the answers matched or were largely consistent with the given scheme.

The Board also asked candidates to provide information in a way that can be easily understood and identified so that their applications can be processed appropriately.

To check marks, candidates have to pay $500 pounds per answer book, while re-evaluation requests incur a fee of $100 per question.

The re-evaluation process was reviewed following OSM concerns

The current review process was introduced after some students and teachers raised concerns following this year’s Class 12 results, which were fully assessed through a newly expanded on-screen marking system.

To address students’ concerns, the Ministry of Education and the Central Board of Secondary Education had earlier announced a significant reduction in post-result fees and assured students that the fees would be refunded if their scores increased after the review. Education Minister Sanjay Kumar said the move aims to ensure that “no child, for any reason, feels that he or she has received lower grades than they deserve.”

Under the revised structure announced earlier this month, the fee for obtaining a scanned copy of an assessed answer sheet has been reduced. $700 l $100 per topic, verification fee has been cut $500 l $100 and the re-evaluation fees were reduced from $100 l $25 per question. The Ministry also promised to refund the full amount if the marks increased after the review.

Unlike the previous system, where students first applied for verification and then waited for copies of their answer books, the new OSM-based process begins with students receiving scanned copies of their assessed texts. They can then compare them to official marking systems, identify discrepancies and submit objections to the questions for expert review.

The changes come amid debate over the impact of OSM after the Grade 12 pass rate fell to 85.20 per cent this year from 88.39 per cent in 2025, the biggest drop in seven years. Some students and teachers wondered whether the new assessment system affected grading standards.

However, CBSE and Education Ministry officials defended the system, asserting that the answer scripts were fully evaluated by trained teachers and that no artificial intelligence was used in the marking process. According to CBSE Chairman Rahul Singh, around 77,000 teachers participated in the assessment exercise after undergoing extensive training.

The officials also emphasized that OSM is improving transparency by digitizing answer books, eliminating calculation errors through automated compilation and enabling assessment of answer scripts across regions. The Council indicated that the digital assessment mechanism is likely to continue in future exams despite the controversy.

CBSE is expected to keep the verification and re-evaluation portal open for at least two days after the final scanned copy of the evaluated answer book is made available to the applicants.
