Madurai, AIADMK leader RB Udhayakumar on Friday denied TVK leader Aadhav Arjuna’s claims that 90 per cent of Dravidian party cadres were ready to jump to the Vijay-led party and warned of dire “political consequences” if attempts to poach AIADMK workers continued.

“I give you this final warning: If you continue with this blitz and this drama of claiming power, you will have to face dire political consequences and massive political backlash. You will have to face it,” Udayakumar said.

Describing Arjuna as a “political newcomer” with no stable ideological foundation, the former minister alleged that TVK is aggressively trying to buy off loyal opposition cadres using absolute financial power and administrative inducements.

“The collective grief of millions of inexhaustible grassroots workers in the AIADMK remains an inexhaustible vessel. The center of power that has jumped across multiple political parties over the past 10 years just to invest and accumulate power, is now making hollow statements about our cadres,” Udayakumar told reporters here.

Highlighting the electoral arithmetic, Udayakumar pointed out that 68.5 per cent of the total number of voters in Tamil Nadu cast their votes against the DMK.

He criticized TVK for creating a “mirage of despair” around the AIADMK when, in reality, TVK only got a 34.5 per cent slice of that anti-incumbency sentiment, which is in no way close to a mandate to demand absolute power or state rule.

He added, “The party that has not yet fully gained the public’s trust to assume state power is actively setting up a theater of bargaining on weekends and holidays, and boasts that the ‘integration celebrations’ will continue on Saturday and Sunday.”

Issuing an ultimatum, the former minister said that the AIADMK’s 2 lakh crore strong cadre base, down to most of the common workers at the grassroots level, will retaliate legally and politically if this poaching operation continues under the guise of providing political asylum.

He reiterated that victories and defeats have never deterred the AIADMK and their commitment to public service is unwavering under the leadership of Edappadi K Palaniswami.

“If you continue to act as an ideological enemy and follow our loyalists, you will have to face a severe and violent political backlash from millions of broken but resilient party workers,” Udayakumar said.
