New Delhi: India’s 2026 Unity Cup campaign suffered a setback after the Blue Tigers were beaten 2-0 by Jamaica in the semi-final at The Valley in London on Wednesday. Facing a more physical and higher-ranked Jamaica side, India showed flashes of promise but struggled to convert possession into clear-cut chances, with the Reggae Boyz easily booking their place in the final against Nigeria.

Jamaica took an early lead through Courtney Clarke in the eighth minute after a quick counterattack exposed India’s defence. Gurpreet Singh Sandhu initially blocked the first dangerous ball, but Clarke collected the loose ball outside the box and curled a stunning shot into the top corner to give Jamaica the lead.India tried to respond with a more aggressive approach in the second half. Lallianzuala Chhangte, Ryan Williams and Farukh Chaudhry tried to put pressure on the Jamaican defence, while Sandesh Jhingan excelled with a series of decisive interventions in the defence. Changte scored in the 53rd minute after confusion inside the penalty area, but the goal was disallowed due to offside.Khaled Jamil introduced new players, including debutant BN Noval and Vikram Partap Singh, as India looked for an equaliser. However, Jamaica’s pace and composure proved decisive once again when Kaheim Dixon doubled the lead in the 78th minute with a brilliant solo effort, darting past two defenders before firing into the far corner.

Despite the defeat, India’s defense showed resilience for long periods against 71st-placed Jamaica. However, there are still concerns over the injury suffered by Ryan Williams, who had to be substituted in the second half.India will now face Zimbabwe in the third-place play-off, while Jamaica moves on to the 2026 Unity Cup final against Nigeria.
