New Delhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has directed the authorities to strictly implement a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against illegal constructions within 15 km of the country’s borders and demolish all such structures that have come up over the years.

The Home Ministry has assigned enhanced responsibilities to district magistrates to ensure legal and financial compliance of banking transactions in border areas by all banks, verify major commercial enterprises, examine their sources of funding, trace mule accounts and fake companies, identify fake Aadhaar cards and control cross-border smuggling, officials said.
While chairing a security review meeting in Bikaner on Tuesday, Shah took stock of security-related issues regarding the border areas of Rajasthan along the Indo-Pak border.
The meeting was attended by Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, senior state officials, district magistrates and superintendents of police of five border districts – Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Sri Ganganagar and Phalodi.
The Ministry of Interior said in a statement that the border areas have been directed to conduct an in-depth study of the sources, patterns and networks of crimes and the drug threat, and to develop permanent solutions so that these problems do not resurface again.
Shah stressed the formulation of a 360-degree security cover for each border area, including citizens, state agencies and security agencies.
The Home Minister called for strict implementation of zero-tolerance policy against illegal construction, especially within zero to 15 kilometers of internal borders, and demolition of all such structures, the officials said.
He stressed the importance of a coordinated approach to border management involving the Border Guard Forces, the Central Trade Development Office, the National Central Bureau and state agencies to address issues of infiltration, drug smuggling, encroachment, financing of terrorism and other cross-border crimes.
“The focus was on the successful implementation of the Vibrant Villages-2 program to strengthen last-mile management, reduce economic crimes, bridge infrastructure gaps and support border residents,” the ministry’s statement said.
In the meeting, Shah also directed to ensure 100 per cent gratification of all government schemes in border villages and called for effective use of ‘1930’ call center to tackle cyber crimes.
“A review and feedback on these issues will be conducted again after two months and hence, districts will have to ensure result-oriented actions,” the statement said. ABS Ari
