Power tussle has been a recurring theme in Karnataka politics since the Congress won elections in 2023. Reports suggest that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah may be ready to vacate the post, but there is no clarity on who will succeed him. Follow live updates on change of leadership engagement in Karnataka here.

The rumors were renewed on Tuesday when Siddaramaiah and his deputy DK Shivakumar arrived in Delhi and met senior Congress leaders in the city. Giving an update on what happened in the meeting, Parameshwara told the media: “No one knows what was discussed inside. We have no information yet.”

“The confusion will clear up tomorrow.”

The Congress leader also said that Karnataka Congress in-charge Randeep Surjewala is on his way to Bengaluru and will clear the “confusion” tomorrow. “We still don’t know anything about the internal discussions. We only know what KC Venugopal said. That’s all I have to say,” Parameshwara told reporters.

The minister was referring to Venugopal’s remarks on Tuesday, in which he said the meeting was entirely focused on the upcoming Rajya Sabha and Karnataka Assembly elections.

Whatever speculation you people are making, it is just speculation, not reality at all. “Today we discussed Rajya Sabha seats and Karnataka Assembly seats,” Venugopal told the media, flanked by Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar.

However, people familiar with the matter told HT that the leadership was convincing Siddaramaiah to step down as chief minister, in exchange for Rajya Sabha membership and a cabinet seat for his son Yatindra.

There is no official clarification from the Congress on what is going on in Karnataka, and who will replace Siddaramaiah if he resigns as chief minister.

Was Siddaramaiah pushed to resign from his position?

As reported earlier by HT, the Congress high command seemed to be pushing Siddaramaiah to step down but he was weighing his options. Siddaramaiah is reluctant to hand over his post to his deputy DK Shivakumar, but party president Mallikarjun Kharge told him that the decision on who will take over the post is not the chief minister’s prerogative.

Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah DK Shivakumar has called a breakfast meeting on May 28, in a replay of the politics that unfolded in November 2025 when similar buzz emerged for a change in leadership. Parameshwar confirmed this development in his interaction with journalists today. He also said that he would meet Siddaramaiah this afternoon.
