Kevin Hart addresses the backlash over jokes made on Netflix grilled kevin hart, Especially the ones made by Tony Hinchcliffe.
During the roast earlier this month, Hinchcliffe took jabs at several guests, including Hart, but faced criticism for a joke referencing George Floyd, who was killed by police in 2020. “The black community is very proud of you,” Hinchcliffe said of Hart. “Right now, we’re all looking at George Floyd laughing so hard he can’t breathe.”
Hart appeared on Tuesday Breakfast ClubHe shared his thoughts on Hinchcliffe’s violent reaction.
“Yes, the George Floyd joke, it wasn’t a delicious joke for our culture, for our audience, but our audience watching the barbecue, if you watch the barbecue, you’ll understand why they did it. You’ll understand why racist humor is at the table,” Hart said. “I wasn’t shocked. This is what they do. Go and see [The Roast of] Tom Brady, like, that’s what they do. It happens every year when they have a barbecue. It’s not new.
When asked if he thought the joke had gone “too far”, Hart replied: “It’s Tony Hinchcliffe. I wouldn’t expect less. I wouldn’t expect more.”
“Tony Hinchcliffe had arguably the best or one of the best collections,” he said. “house [Davidson] He had a great set too. Pete had a Charlie Kirk joke in it. Like, am I going to tell those jokes? No, but do I understand why they would tell that? Yes. I don’t look at Pete crazy. I don’t look at Tony. That’s what I know what you’ll do. I know your style of comedy.
Hart also pleaded with fans not to blame him for the jokes made during the barbecue.
“Whatever the conversation is, my response is simplicity. Get me out of it. I didn’t say it. If you’re upset about the night going on, that’s a different conversation. I can’t do anything. It’s a production,” he later added, “Stop talking like I said it.”
After the barbecue, Terrence Floyd, George Floyd’s brother, criticized Hart for not intervening when Hinchcliffe told the joke. He said previously Breakfast Club Host Lauren LoRosa said Hart should have brought “Will Smith energy” and backed away from Hinchcliffe’s joke.
Chelsea Handler, who was also among the night’s toasters, later criticized Hinchcliffe and Shane Gillies, the show’s host. Roast Kevin HartCalling them “racists”, “bigots” and “sexists”.
