The Center told the Supreme Court on Tuesday that it had given the Delhi Gymkhana Club an opportunity to vacate the building “on its own”, and that if they did not vacate on their own, it did not mean the police would rush in and the Center would forcefully take possession of the building.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the Supreme Court that the possession will be seized as per law.
He added: “We cannot go and evacuate it.”
We will not undertake the acquisition except in accordance with the procedures stipulated in the law. It can’t be on the fifth day, because we would have to issue notice, etc. It doesn’t mean that on the fifth day, someone will give consent, the legal officer said.
