Manipur Chief Minister Yomnam Khemchand on Monday announced 477 Manipur Police vehicles acquired under the central government’s police modernization plan, saying their recruitment marks a significant day for the state police.

A total of 477 vehicles have been flagged, including five High Mobility Reconnaissance Vehicles, 60 Bulletproof Rakshaks, 10 Mine Protected Vehicles, 39 Bolero Vehicles, 50 Bolero Neo Vehicles, 74 Tata Yudha Vehicles, 20 Tata Truck Vehicles, 30 Tata 407 Vehicles, 20 Mahindra Buses, 19 Water Tankers, 50 Bolero Camper Vehicles, And 100 motorcycles.
The Prime Minister said that the Home Ministry has approved an amount of Rs. 196.61 crore on October 31, 2025 for police modernization initiatives in the state, and that his government was committed to strengthening the police department and modernizing police infrastructure.
Home Minister Govindas Kunthugam said the newly acquired vehicles will significantly improve mobility, efficiency and response capacity of Manipur Police during emergencies and other important situations.
Manipur Director General of Police Rajeev Singh said the newly acquired vehicles will improve operational efficiency and mobility of the police force. He said that 54% of the vehicles will be allocated to the hill districts, while 46% will be deployed to the valley districts.

Highlighting several achievements of Manipur Police, the Director General of Police, who was appointed as Secretary (Security) in the Cabinet Secretariat on May 21, said that with the establishment of the anti-extortion cell, 1,000 people have been arrested so far.
He also informed that more than 700 people were arrested and 600 cases were registered as part of the anti-drug campaign launched by the state.
He said that Manipur Police signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Security Guard for specialized training programs for police personnel. He said strengthening intelligence networks and enhancing coordination with the public would help improve policing and emergency response across the state.
Deputy Chief Minister Lucy Dekho, Chief Secretary Dr Puneet Kumar Goel, Security Advisor Kuldeep Singh, senior police officers, Army officers, CRPF and various security agencies among others attended the programme.
