Private Secretary to Chief Minister K Vijayanand said the government is prioritizing green mobility with focus on combating pollution, adopting clean energy and improving transport services.

Vijayanand reviewed the progress of electricity infrastructure works for e-bus charging stations along with Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation Managing Director MT Krishna Babu and stressed on the need for timely implementation of all pending works.

“The state is rapidly developing electric mobility infrastructure under the Centre’s PM e-Bus Sewa scheme… This initiative will mark a milestone in developing sustainable urban transport systems, protecting the environment and expanding modern public transport services across Andhra Pradesh,” Vijayanand said in an official statement late on Saturday.

According to the official, under the second tender for the PM e-Bus Sewa scheme, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs sanctioned 750 electric buses for Andhra Pradesh covering 11 cities and 12 depots, while Tirupati got an additional allocation of 300 buses under the third tender for converged energy services.

Of the 750 buses, 621 are 12-meter buses and 129 are nine-meter buses and will operate in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur, Nellore, Kurnool, Kakinada, Kadapa, Tirupati, Rajamahndravaram, Amravati and Anantapur, the press release said.

Vijayanand noted that this introduction would significantly enhance modern and environment-friendly public transport services while positioning Andhra Pradesh among the leading states in the field of electric mobility.

He said that the behind-the-meter charging infrastructure required for uninterrupted electric bus operations is being developed simultaneously at all depots with approved support from the Central Sanctions and Guidance Committee.
