An FIR was registered against Sanjay Singh at Civil Lines police station on May 14 on charges of rape, extortion and cheating, among others, following a complaint filed by the woman BJP leader, Senior Police Inspector Rajneesh Singh said.

Singh, who was arrested from Ranchi in neighboring Jharkhand, was taken to Bilaspur on Friday, the police officer added.

Mobile phone conversations, call logs, financial transactions and other documents related to the case are being examined as part of the investigation, police said.

According to the complaint, the woman met Singh, who introduced himself as a prominent Ranchi-based businessman, in Delhi about two years ago. He allegedly lured her into investing in the mining business by promising her huge profits.

Singh later convinced her to invest more than… $1.5 lakh crore by offering business partnership and double revenue guarantees.

The two became close acquaintances, and during this period, Singh and his family would frequently visit the woman’s home in Bilaspur, police said.

The complainant alleged that about eight months ago, while she was traveling from Raipur to Bilaspur, the man deliberately sent his driver under some pretext and raped her at a secluded place before leaving her on the road.

She then returned to Bilaspur in an autorickshaw, police said.

The woman also alleged in her complaint that the accused kept forcing her to give him more money through mobile messages and chats and also threatened to kill her, police officers said.
