The Ahmedabad Crime Branch arrested a murder-convicted actor on Wednesday who was on the run after jumping parole 12 years ago, police said on Thursday.According to an ANI report, Ahmedabad Crime Branch Police Inspector PM Dakhra has named the actor as Hemant alias Nagindas Parshottamdas Modi Vaishnav, and he is 53 years old.
He added that the actor was serving a life sentence in connection with a murder case that took place in Naroda district in 2005.Reportedly, a case has been registered against the accused under Sections 302, 324, 147, 148, 149 and 120 (B) of the IPC, as well as Section 135 (1) of the BP Act. The Ahmedabad Crime Branch arrested the actor near Ghikanta Metro station in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.While talking to the media, the official said, “Yesterday, Ahmedabad Crime Branch arrested an accused named Hemant Nagendas Modi, who has been on the run for 12 years after getting parole.
He was convicted of murder and remained in prison until 2014, after which he jumped from parole. He has been wanted for 12 years. During this period, the accused played various roles in the film industry and was also very active on social media.
Many of his web series have also been released.”He added: “The Ahmedabad Crime Branch received a report yesterday that this wanted accused had arrived in Ahmedabad, and accordingly, our Ahmedabad branch arrested him yesterday.”
According to the investigation conducted by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch, during his time on the run, the convicted actor changed his name and started working in films as a supporting actor. The said person has been active in Hindi and Gujarati films, web shows, TV serials and plays.“Initially, to hide his phone number and identity, he avoided Ahmedabad completely. He stayed in Patan and its surrounding areas before moving to Bombay,” said Chief Minister Dakhra of the Ahmedabad Crime Branch.
Since he did not use social media or mobile phones, we could not track him using technology. Later, based on information from local informants about his arrival in Ahmedabad, he was arrested yesterday.”According to the statement issued by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch, during the 10 years he spent on the run, the actor maintained a “very active and visible career in the entertainment industry”, which included his work in films like “Thugs of Hindostan” and “Jayeshbhai Jordaar”.“His professional portfolio during this period of elusiveness also included roles in the upcoming films ‘Lahore 1947’ and ‘Metro in Dino’, the South Indian film ‘L2: Emporan’, and several television serials, including ‘Wajal Ki Duniya’ and ‘Mere Sai’,” the statement added.Outside the big screens, the actor has remained active in theatre, performing in plays like ‘Yugpurush’ and ‘Gandhi Viruddh Godse’.Despite his career in films, web series and serials, he successfully evaded the authorities until he was recently arrested by the Crime Branch. Ahmedabad Police returned the accused to Mehsana Jail to serve the remainder of his sentence.
