Prashanth Neel has shared new details about his upcoming film ‘Dragon’. The project stars Jr NTR in the lead role and has already generated massive excitement after a glimpse of it was released just a day before the ‘RRR’ actor’s birthday.In a recent conversation with Galatta Plus, Prashanth Neel explained why accepting the role was a major decision for the actor. According to Neil, the character is unlike anything Jr NTR has portrayed before.
The director says the role of “The Dragon” was a difficult choice
Speaking about their first discussion, Prashanth Neel revealed that the project was narrated to Jr NTR almost five years ago. He said the actor immediately understood that the part would challenge his screen image.Prashanth Neel said, “Five years ago we met and when I told him what the film was about… I wouldn’t assume the fact that I wanted to be humble all the time, but I think this was probably one of the hardest decisions he had to make to play this character. Not because of what’s in the trailer, but because of the drama of the film. It was one of the biggest decisions he had to make to play this particular role.”

I spent three years finding character motivations
The director explained that the story needs a convincing emotional foundation. It took the writing team three years to determine the reasons behind the protagonist’s actions.He continued, “By the end of this movie, everyone will know why I’m saying this. She’s a dark character. She’s probably darker than any character, not probably, she’s the darkest character I’ve ever written. For him to play something like that, the only question he asked was is each character right or wrong, is the drama appropriate for it? Is there a reason for it? It took us 3 years to come up with that logic, to get to that point of investigating why that character does what he does.”

‘Dragon’ title and first glimpse revealed
The film was previously known with the working title NTTRneel. The official title ‘Dragon’ was announced through a powerful teaser released ahead of Jr NTR’s birthday on May 19.Sharing the teaser online, the makers wrote: “#NTRNeel is #Dragon, here comes #DragonGlimpse taking you into its world and characters.” The first glimpse presents a dark and atmospheric atmosphere. The story is set in 1967 and is inspired by the Golden Triangle and the global opium trade.
