Former Rajya Sabha member Priyanka Chaturvedi on Tuesday criticized the Madhya Pradesh government over its handling of the alleged dowry death case of a woman from Noida in Bhopal. She also expressed her condemnation of the statements made by the deceased woman’s mother-in-law.

“Shame on the Madhya Pradesh government,” Chaturvedi wrote on X. “The victim’s mother-in-law, who is herself an accused, is repeatedly speaking to the media to defame her deceased daughter-in-law,” the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader said.

She added that this is “a deliberate attempt to spoil the case, yet the parliamentary government and the police allow her to speak in a case subject to authority, while she is an accused and her son is a fugitive.”

Chaturvedi alleged that the accused family tried to portray the deceased as a “schizophrenic, drug addict, and someone who spends nights out”, while also accusing her parents of exploiting her financially.

“Just a reminder of that Madhya Pradesh remains one of the states with the highest rates of reported crimes against women in India.

Lawyer asks CJI to investigate ‘suspicious death’

He has a local lawyer He went to the judiciary to request intervention in the case. Advocate Vivek Tiwari has written to the Chief Justice of India and the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh, demanding an independent and fair investigation into the “suspicious death” of the woman.

In his letter, Tiwari said that the victim’s father approached him seeking justice for his daughter. The lawyer said he also raised concerns about the anticipatory bail granted to the husband’s mother-in-law.

“The father of the deceased has expressed concern about the possibility of influencing witnesses, tampering with evidence and destroying vital forensic material,” the lawyer said.

He called for an impartial investigation.

There is no relief from the court for the husband

He added: “Because the girl is dead now, they think they can say anything against her and blame her,” stressing the need to prove the accusations in court instead of publishing them publicly.

He described the remarks as deeply offensive, and said that the public defamation of a deceased woman was a particularly “serious crime” and “shameful” coming from someone who held a high judicial office.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged dowry death is currently examining CCTV footage, call logs and digital fingerprints to trace the absconding pair.
