Rick and Morty Aimed at the big screen.
Jacob Hare, who has directed episodes of the long-running Adult Swim series since 2019, is in talks to helm an animated feature adaptation for Warner Bros. Hollywood Reporter I’ve learned. Plot details have not yet been shared publicly for the film, which is in the early development stage.
Rick and Morty Premiering in 2013, the Emmy Award-winning series has ranked as the most-watched comedy on basic cable for the past several seasons. President Curtisa spinoff series featuring voice actor Keith David in the titular role, is set to debut soon from Adult Swim.
Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland co-created Rick and Mortywhich focuses on inventor Rick Sanchez and his universe-spanning adventures with his teenage grandson Morty. In early 2023, Adult Swim cut ties with Roiland following felony domestic violence charges that were later dismissed. Up to that point, Roiland had voiced both titular characters, with the roles having been recast since then.
Rick and Morty It is scheduled to begin its ninth season on Sunday and has been renewed for a 12th season. Hare serves as the director supervising the show.
In 2023, Harmon said THR that he was part of conversations with Warner Bros. executives. About A Rick and Morty movie, and he remembers feeling optimistic.
“My philosophy would be just take it Rick and Morty “An adventure, spend a bunch of extra money on it and make it 90 minutes,” Harmon said at the time. “I’m not trying to earn its feature status by virtue of key dramatic turns or anything like that, but just to make it a super badass episode of Rick and Morty.”
Harmon also noted that director Zack Snyder offered to help pull some strings to make a special version of it Rick and Morty To Life: “He was an absolute fan and was like, ‘Is there any way I can help kick off this movie with my Snyder-ness?'” Snyder later played himself in a cameo role during the eighth season of Rick and Morty.
