A man shouts an anti-Jewish slogan
British police have launched an urgent search for a man after a disturbing video clip appeared online in which he appears to be threatening to “behead Jews one by one” on a street in east London. The incident occurred near a mosque on Whitechapel Road in Tower Hamlets, where a group of men were seen chanting pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel slogans while speaking on camera. In the footage, the man can be heard shouting: “You Jews, your heads will be cut off one by one, you filthy Jews.”
He also chanted slogans including, “Fuck Israel” and “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be liberated.”
The police launch an urgent investigation
The Metropolitan Police said officers rushed to the area after the clip was posted online on Friday and are now trying to identify the suspect.A police spokesman said: “We recognize that incidents such as this cause great concern and we take all reports very seriously.”
Hate crime of any kind has no place in our societies.”The authorities said that investigations are continuing and that officers are conducting urgent investigations.
Jewish community ‘exceptionally concerned’
Community security group Shomrim called the footage “horrific” and said the Orthodox Jewish community was deeply concerned by the threats. The organization said it was working closely with the police and that the authorities were taking the matter “very seriously.”
Another man appeared in the video trying to stop the speaker from continuing, although it remains unclear whether the two know each other.
Growing concerns about Antisemitism in the United Kingdom
The incident comes amid growing concerns about anti-Semitism in Britain following a series of attacks and threats targeting Jewish communities.Earlier this month, the London Metropolitan Police announced the formation of a new specialist “community protection team” that includes 100 additional officers tasked with protecting Jewish neighborhoods and sites.Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley had previously warned of a growing “pandemic” of anti-Semitism across the UK, and said hundreds of additional officers were needed across London.
