An assistant professor at Lucknow University was arrested on Friday night after audio clips of him pressuring a female student to “meet him” went viral. Paramjit Singh, a teacher in the zoology department, was accused of harassing the student and trying to lure her with promises. Exam papers leaked.

The controversy erupted after three audio recordings were circulated on social media. In the approximately two-minute clip, The faculty member was allegedly heard asking the student about her mother’s health before offering to help.

The man said: “Well, if you need any kind of help, not only for that, but otherwise as well, I know ten to twelve doctors. Well, my dear? If you say so, I will definitely come today. And if you need any financial or other support, everything is open to you.”

The student was heard saying: “No sir, there is no such problem sir. It will be managed. It is not a big problem, it will be solved.”

Then the conversation turned to university exams, where the man claimed that he had leaked papers for elective and core subjects.

He says: “So, on what day will you come to meet me, after your exams are over. You leaked my exam papers.”

When the student reportedly replied that she had already prepared for the exams and was unable to leave the house due to her responsibilities there, the man allegedly continued to insist her to meet him.

He said: “I leaked the two papers to you.” “No, no, come on. I’ll leak the paper to you, yar. I have the whole paper with me. So, come on,” he heard the man say.

After I refused again and again, the man said: “So you won’t meet me even once? So tell me, when are you going to meet me? You have to come one day. Okay, come in seven days, okay?”

At the end of the clip, a female voice allegedly claims that she was repeatedly harassed by the caller.

Legal trouble for Paramjeet Singh

When the recordings came to light, the university administration launched an investigation and the police registered a case against Singh.

Lucknow University Vice-Chancellor, Professor JP Saini, directed the university’s internal complaints committee to investigate the matter and submit its findings within 24 hours.

University spokesperson Professor Mukul Srivastava He said that the administration has taken cognizance of the issue and action will be taken based on the investigation report.

In a complaint filed with Hasanganj police station, Controller of Examinations Vidya Nand Tripathi described the audio clips as an “inappropriate conversation” between the teacher and the student. The complaint alleged that the faculty member tried to lure the student by promising to leak question papers from ongoing university examinations.

The police have now lodged an FIR under Section 74 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on charges of harassing a woman and attempting to prejudice the integrity of university examinations through organized cheating activities and leaking of papers.

According to Lucknow Police, the accused assistant professor was taken into custody on Friday night, and further legal proceedings are underway.
