V D Sathisan is likely to be sworn in as Kerala’s next chief minister on May 18, and the Congress-led alliance is expected to form a full-fledged 21-member government.

The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) on Thursday unanimously elected Sathisan as its leader in the Assembly, according to a PTI report.

The resolution was moved at the CLP meeting by Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Sunny Joseph and supported by senior Congress leader Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan.
Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala was absent from the meeting but sent a message expressing his support to VD Satheesan, sources said.
The CLP meeting was held hours after the All India Congress Committee formally announced Satheesan as the next Prime Minister. The party leaders are now expected to meet Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlikar and present messages of support from the United Democratic Front alliance partners.
