Two women have been arrested on charges of running a prostitution ring out of rented houses here in the city, police said on Thursday.
They added that the arrests were made by officers and employees of the Women’s Protection Squad of the Central Crime Branch after receiving information about carrying out such illegal activities.
The police said that according to information, prostitution is being carried out by keeping women in rented houses in Ajith Nagar and Vidyaman Nagar areas.
Based on the information provided by informants, officers and staff of the CCB Women’s Protection Squad raided the sites on different dates, they added.
According to the police, during the operation two women who allegedly forced other women into prostitution were detained, and three women involved in prostitution were rescued.
A statement issued by the office of Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said: “During interrogation, the two detained women confessed that, with the aim of earning more money, they phoned men seeking prostitution services, invited them to homes, and carried out prostitution activities.”
Cases have been registered against them at Soladevanahalli police station and Byadarahalli police station, and investigation is underway, he added.
