Neetu Kapoor used to fast, go to temples, temples and churches when Rishi Kapoor's films didn't work, says the institution of marriage is collapsing now

Neetu Kapoor and late actor Rishi Kapoor shared four decades of marriage and built a family with their two children, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni and Ranbir Kapoor. Having entered the film industry at a very young age, Neetu recently reflected on how intertwined her life was with Rishi after she fell in love with him as a teenager.Neetu opened up about their relationship, revealing how much of her world revolves around making Rishi happy. She said in an interview with

Soha Ali Khan

On her podcast. “I got involved with him when I was 14-15, so I kind of grew up with him. He took me out and showed me the world. He would take me to discos. He taught me how to drink wine and everything. I didn’t see the world. I was probably too afraid of him and I would always try to make him happy.”The actress also revealed how emotionally invested she was through the highs and lows of her career. “When his films didn’t work, I used to do all these fasts, go to temples, temples, churches. I don’t know how many novenas I had to do in my life for his films to work. I couldn’t see him upset or miserable. That was my life and it was a very innocent life. Today, when I look back, I see that I was truly innocent. I lived life the way it came.”

During the conversation, Neetu also reflected on why she believes the concept of marriage has changed over time. According to her, the development of lifestyles and independence has contributed to the decline of traditional marriages. “You don’t have to be married to have children,” she said. “So the institution of marriage is declining.”She also noted that financial independence changed people’s approach to relationships and commitment.

Neetu went on to open up about the arguments she and Rishi Kapoor would have during their marriage, and revealed that some of their disagreements extended for several months. She admitted that communication was often difficult because Rishi did not listen to her concerns immediately.“I used to have this Cold War, and the Cold War could last a month or six months. And I didn’t even stoop to the time when he didn’t ask me, ‘What’s your problem?’ And I remembered he would do that.

Sharing how these conversations would eventually evolve, she added, “And then he was like, ‘Acha bata yaar, kya hai? What is your problem? Let’s work it out.’ I would say, now that you’ve come to me, now, listen to me. Because otherwise, he won’t listen.

Neetu also revealed that when he failed to understand why she was upset, Rishi would often reach out to their children, Ranbir and Riddhima, to find out what happened. “So when I tell people I’ve been married for 30 or 40 years, my mother-in-law would say, ‘You’ve only been married for 20 years because you haven’t spoken for 10 years,’” Neetu said, recalling a humorous remark her mother-in-law made about their long marriage.
