ABC will bring back its entire scripted lineup in the 2026-27 season.
The network renewed the drama for its first year R. J. Decker For the second season. The Private Eye series is based on the novel by Carl Hiaasen Double hitwas the last scripted show at ABC and its future has not yet been decided.
With this pickup, ABC will bring back all 10 of its current scripted shows for next season. This is the first time the network has had no cancellations since at least 2012 (and probably for a number of years before that as well). ABC also renewed both 911 dramas, Abbott Elementary School, Grey’s Anatomy, High Potential, Beginner, Scrubs, Moving Gears and Will Trent.
ABC also has only one pilot still in the running for a pickup truck – Rising: Northa sub-view of Rising Starring Jay Ellis. Last week, the network passed on a comedy pilot called Do you want kids? By Rachel Bloom and Dan Gregor.
Scott Speedman plays the title character in R. J. Deckera disgraced former photojournalist and ex-convict who is now a private investigator in South Florida. Jaina Lee Ortiz, Bevin Breaux, Kevin Rankin, and Adelaide Clemens also star.
The series put up strong ratings numbers during the spring season. The series’ March 3 premiere garnered more than 15 million viewers over five weeks of multiplatform viewing. Over the course of seven days of linear viewing only, R. J. Decker averaging just under 5 million viewers, in line with Rising (5.23 million) and fellow first-year showrunner 911: Nashville (4.73 million). The steaming likely added a few million viewers to the seven-day total.
