Bonnie Tyler, best known for her 1980s hits “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and “Holding Out for a Hero,” was hospitalized.
The 74-year-old singer was taken to a hospital in Portugal for emergency intestinal surgery, according to a statement posted on her website on Wednesday.
“We are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been hospitalized in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home, for emergency intestinal surgery,” the statement read. “The surgery went well and she is now recovering. We know that all her family, friends and fans will be concerned about this news and will wish her a full and speedy recovery.”

Born in Wales in 1951, Tyler was responsible for some of the biggest hits of the 1980s, most notably “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and “Hold Out For a Hero.” She achieved her first success in the late 1970s with the song “Lost in France” from her first album, The world begins tonight.
“Total Eclipse of the Heart” went platinum, while “Holding Out For A Hero,” with its highly dramatic production, became a needle drop almost everywhere in movies and TV shows, first with free, For which I wrote the song, and then in films like Partner 2 and Super Mario Bros movie.
Known for her distinctive raspy voice, Tyler became the first British artist to debut at number one in the UK album charts with her 1983 album. Faster than the speed of the night.
