Bad marketing news for Steven Spielberg Disclosure day.

Although the Trump administration and some members of Congress have repeatedly teased the imminent release of documents that might prove the existence of extraterrestrial life, former President Barack Obama is adamant that the government is not actually hiding anything of real importance about the subject.

In an interview with Stephen Colbert for CBS Late ShowObama sought to clarify his widely reported comment earlier this year about aliens being “real” and threw cold water on the idea that the government is hiding any legitimate evidence of the existence of alien life or ships from other worlds.

Colbert first told Obama “no one believed you” when the former president tried to walk back his original sensational statement — explaining that he meant aliens existed somewhere in the universe — and asked him to be honest.

“Here’s the thing: For those of you who still think we’ve got little green men underground somewhere, one of the things you learn as president is that government is bad at keeping secrets,” Obama said. “The idea of these conspiracy theories — if there were aliens or spaceships or anything under the control of the United States government that we knew about, or saw, or photographed, what have you… I promise you that some guy guarding the facility would have taken a selfie with one of the aliens and sent it to his girlfriend to impress her. There will be leaks.”

Obama added that he hoped alien life was real and had a suggestion for who the human race should send as a first contact emissary: himself.

“First call, I think I would be a good envoy for planet Earth,” Obama said. “I have some experience in statecraft and diplomacy. I’m friendly. So I actually think I could do a pretty good job.”

Then Obama added emphatically: “But that hasn’t happened yet.”

Last week, Trump said the Pentagon was preparing to release some “very interesting” UFO files. “We’re going to be releasing a lot of stuff that we haven’t done,” he said. “I think some of it will be very interesting to people.” In April, Trump said: “One [UFO] Releases will start very, very soon… so you can go out and see if this phenomenon is true. You will find out.”

Trump has positioned himself as chief revelation officer, having previously ordered the release of records related to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr., but the documents did not reveal much that was new.

The UFO hype has become intertwined with the excitement surrounding the upcoming release of Spielberg’s film Disclosure dayWhich tells what would happen if humanity suddenly discovered that we are not alone in the universe.
