The American luxury designer once again gathered a star-studded group of A-list guests for a group photo in their custom looks for what has become an annual tradition at New York’s Pierre Hotel. Hollywood, sports, music and fashion stars looked their best on Monday, including Dwayne Johnson with wife Lauren Hashian, supermodel Adut Akech, Bill Skarsgård, Olivia Wilde, rappers Skepta, Finn Wolfhard and Olympic skater Lindsey Vonn. Saturday Night Live Hacker Marcelo Hernandez and illustrator Amy Sherald. (Not pictured but part of Browne’s Met Gala lineup was Chinese superstar Cai Xukun, also known as KUN.)

For the new installment, celebrating the Met Gala’s theme of “The Art of Fashion” as a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Brown presented an “examination of the body as form” in honor of the exhibition curated by Andrew Bolton. Adut Akech as “The Pregnant Body”

The supermodel, who is expecting her second child with partner Samuel El Khair, wore a sculpted black off-the-shoulder sequin jacket with a sheer black tulle dress and patent leather high-heeled pumps. Bear Brown, this look was intended to explore “the evolution of clothing through the physical change of the body” and was inspired by birth and new beginnings. He decorated the dress with lily of the valley flowers – a flower associated with May births – and used more than 1,100 handmade silk organza flowers. (Hint: The pink petals on Akesh’s stomach are not a coincidence, as she is rumored to be having a baby girl.)

Chase Infinity as “The Naked Body”

the Battle after battle The star wore an embroidered Trompe l’oeil dress designed by Brown to play a trick on the eye by alluding to the human body. Inspired by the Venus de Milo, the ancient Greek statue sculpted by Alexandros of Antioch to represent the goddess Aphrodite, the embroidered look features over 1.5 million stacked sequins paired with graduated silk fringes in over 600 different colors to mimic brushstrokes. She paired the dress with black Thom Browne platform heels.

the SNL She showed off the hack in a classic black herringbone double-breasted suit with black and white alloy tips and black grained leather wing boots. Bear Brown Hernandez was intended to represent the designer’s “vision of tailoring through a classic, clean, timeless silhouette.”

Dwayne Johnson and Lauren Hashian as “Deadly Body”

For his Met Gala debut, the trendsetting star arrived with his wife on his arm while wearing a three-layer black mohair coat featuring more than 350 meters of hand-folded silk ribbons in a structural composition. He paired the coat with a pleated skirt and matching trousers with a white silk jacket, a wing-neck shirt, and classic wing-shaped boots in black grained leather. On Hashian: Thom Johns halter-neck criss-cross white silk crepe dress in soft, shiny white leather. Together they were meant to symbolize Brown’s vision of “strength and elegance that plays on the mortal and timeless duality of bodies past, present and future.”

KUN as “vital body”

The Chinese singer, songwriter and actor wore a cropped black mohair Chesterfield jacket which he teamed with a black wool lapel jacket, trousers, a long silk belt, and classic black calf leather pumps. His collection is inspired by the inside of the body. To create the look, Brown used more than 400,000 sequin and bugle beads interwoven with frayed organza in shades of red representing blood circulation. Meanwhile, the other half is made of hand-stitched sewing thread interwoven with decorative lung and blood veins.

The American painter hit the beige carpet with a look inspired by her painting that she painted in 2014, entitled “Miss Everything (Unsuppressed Survival).” The Look: Sleeveless floor-length dress in navy wool with navy blue silk pleats, white silk organza inserts and a high slit feature, paired with white leather gloves and wing-shaped pumps in smooth, shiny white leather.

Bill Skarsgård as “The Aging Body”

The movie star made a statement by wearing a long wool and silk satin patchwork tuxedo with a black cashmere jacket, an oversized black coated cotton coat with a shearling collar, a silk tie and classic wingtip shoes. As for the “aging” reference, it is linked to Brown’s work by drawing on a fabric archive spanning 25 years as seen through each hand-stitched patch that supports the overall construction of the garment.

Skepta as “The Chiseled Body”

The Nigerian MC and rapper became the “chiseled body” of the night by wearing a white wool jumpsuit with detailed hand-painted satin stitch embroideries. Developed and inspired by Skepta’s own tattoos, the suit’s ink matches the position and size of his tattoos. He accessorized the look with black leather moto boots.

Lindsey Vonn as “Classic Body”

The Olympic figure skater made her first red carpet appearance since suffering a horrific injury at the Winter Olympics in Italy. She wore a deconstructed, embroidered Trompe-l’œil dress, inspired by marble with more than 500,000 cut glass and bugle beads in shades of white, grey, silver and clear crystal. The look also featured a tulle underskirt in a variety of shades of white. She wore white grained leather brogue heels. Per Brown, the look was directly inspired by the Met’s classic marble statues.

Olivia Wilde as “The Naked Body”

The actress and director, who is next releasing the film A24 Invitationshe wore an off-the-shoulder black satin Duchess corset dress with an exposed tan leather basket and underskirt in a 300-yard cloud of layered tulle in off-white and blush. She paired the dress with black patent leather heels. Her collection was dedicated to “transforming the silhouette of the body through structured lingerie such as corsets, baskets, and bustier clothing as tools of abstraction and artistic expression.”

Finn Wolfhard as “The Reclaimed Body”

the Strange things The star appeared at the Met Gala wearing functional white wool trousers and skirt, with long wingtip boots. The collection’s embellishments are handcrafted from woven tweeds, silk, organza, lace and muslin in shades of white. According to Brown, the white portions of Wolfhard’s look were treated using abstract compositional painting, effectively treating the canvas as a canvas in keeping with the theme of the night.
