The Cabinet approves three multi-track projects covering 19 districts across states, expanding the Indian Railways network by 90%

New Delhi: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday approved 03 (three) projects for the Ministry of Railways at a total cost of Rs. Rs 23,437 crore (approx). These projects include Nagda – 3rd and 4th line in Mathura, Guntakal – 3rd and 4th line in the Valley, and Burhwal – 3rd and 4th line in Sitapur.

“The increase in line capacity will significantly enhance mobility, improving operational efficiency and service reliability of Indian Railways. These multi-track proposals are poised to streamline operations and ease congestion. The projects are in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modiji’s vision of New India that will make the people of the region ‘Atmanirbhar’ through comprehensive development of the region, which will enhance their employment/self-employment opportunities,” a CCEA press release said.

These projects are planned as per the National Master Plan PM-Gati Shakti with focus on enhancing multi-modal connectivity and logistics efficiency through integrated planning and stakeholder consultations. These projects will provide seamless connectivity for the movement of people, goods and services.

“The (three) projects covering 19 districts across the states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will augment the existing Indian Railways network by about 901 km,” the statement said.

The proposed multi-lane project will enhance connectivity to approximately 4,161 villages, with a population of approximately 83,000 people.

The proposed capacity enhancement will improve rail connectivity to several prominent tourist destinations across the country, including Mahakaleshwar, Ranthambore National Park, Kuno National Park, Keoladeo National Park, Mathura, Vrindavan, Mantralayam (Sri Raghavendra Swami Mutt), Sri Nitikanti Anjaneya Swamy Vari Temple (Kasapuram), Shyamnath Temple, Nimisharanya (Nimsar), etc.

“The proposed projects are essential modes of transportation of commodities such as coal, food grains, cement, iron and steel, iron ore, containers, fertilizers, etc. The capacity augmentation works will result in an additional freight movement of 60 million tons per annum. Railways, being an environment-friendly and energy-efficient mode of transportation, will help in achieving climate targets and reduce the logistics cost of the country, reduce oil imports (37 crore litres) and less carbon dioxide emissions (185 crore kg) equivalent to 07 (seven) agriculture,” the statement said.
