US President Donald Trump on Thursday denied reports that he may have been wearing a bulletproof vest after the assassination attempt during a White House correspondents’ dinner.Speaking to reporters, Trump joked that he did not want to appear 20 pounds heavier. “I don’t know if I could handle looking 20 pounds heavier. These guys, they look like some of these guys, some of these guys are physical specimens,” he said.
He added that while such precautions are sometimes taken into consideration, he does not support the idea of appearing overly protective.“I think that’s something you should think about. In a way, you don’t like to do that because you’re giving in to a bad element.
I don’t know. “But I was asked about it,” Trump said. When asked if he was nervous about the possibility of another attack, Trump said he avoided thinking about it. “I don’t think about it,” he said.“And if I did that, I wouldn’t do a very good job here. I wouldn’t think about anything but that. I don’t think about it. I really don’t think about it. If I did that, I wouldn’t be effective,” he added.
These statements came after reports and speculation about security measures in the wake of what the authorities described as a serious attack on the White House dinner.
The incident, which occurred during the high-profile gathering, led to chaos after a gunman stormed the venue armed with weapons, sparking a security response that led to Trump rushing off the stage.According to officials, the suspect, Cole Thomas Allen, allegedly entered the venue armed with guns and knives, causing panic as shots were fired and guests took cover. Trump was safely evacuated during the incident.Authorities charged Allen with attempted assassination and other crimes.Officials continue to investigate the motive behind the attack, while also reviewing electronic evidence and online postings linked to the suspect.Despite the seriousness of the incident, Trump stressed that he does not dwell on personal security threats, saying that he prefers to remain focused on his duties.
