In a drama late on Wednesday night, several BJP workers crowded around a TMC vehicle in Bhabanipur in West Bengal, citing suspicious activities. One of the workers was heard saying: “There is something in the car. Mamata Banerjee brought something in her car.” They stopped the car from moving forward and said it would not be allowed to move. Later, amid protests and the police presence, the car left.

This came at a time when the TMC alleged that the BJP and the Election Commission were trying to open postal ballots in the absence of party representatives. TMC leader Kunal Ghosh alleged that some people were tampering with postal ballots inside the strong room, adding that there was no TMC representative there.

The allegations came a day after the end of the second phase of polling in the Bengal Assembly elections. TMC has made allegations of “ballot tampering”, hours after Mamata Banerjee urged TMC workers to guard electronic voting machines.

Following the allegations, Mamata arrived at Sakhawat Memorial School in south Kolkata, the counting center for the Bhabanipur Assembly segment, which houses the strong room for EVMs for the polls, which were held on April 29.

Meanwhile, the party’s candidates from two North Kolkata seats, Kunal Ghosh and Shashi Banga, staged a sit-in protest outside the Khudiram Anushilan Kendra headquarters.
