Excitement is building for Awarapan 2, the sequel to the 2007 film which releases on August 14, 2026. Emraan Hashmi reprises his lead role and Disha Patani joins him. Director Nitin Kakkar is helming the project, with Mohit Suri confirming that he was not offered the film but remained supportive of his frequent collaborator, Emraan Hashmi.
‘Awarapan’ remains an enduringly popular film, sparking excitement for its sequel, ‘Awarapan 2’, with Vishesh Films recently announcing the release date. While Emraan Hashmi is set to return in the lead role, Mohit Suri will not be directing the film. In a recent interview, the director talked about why he didn’t direct the sequel.

Mohit explained why he did not direct Awarapan 2, telling NDTV: “I have never been offered work before, that’s all. I think they wanted to work, but that’s not the case. I will work with Imran immediately. The problem with him is that I have done eight films with him. He knows me well. I have to give him a role; I can’t push him to do a role. But I think he will be.” It is more beneficial to me than him.”

Suri also reacted to ‘The Ba***ds of Bollywood’ line, ‘Akkha Bollywood ek taraf aur Emraan Hashmi ek taraf (All of Bollywood on one side and Emraan Hashmi on one side)’, and said, ‘This scene was amazing.
I think what Raghav was actually doing is what I have accomplished all my life. It happened 20 years later. Just that. Imran is my elder brother. We grew up together watching the same movies. I think that’s how we learned what kind of sensibility, what kind of movies we like, what kind of music we like.
In the end, he was my first hero and the hero of eight films. So I am the one who can actually say that the making of Puri Ek Tarav and Imran Bhai Ek Tarav.
Mohit Suri and Emraan Hashmi have long collaborated over the years
The professional partnership between Mohit and Imran spans many years. The director made his Bollywood debut with Zaheer (2005), starring Imran in the lead. The duo went on to collaborate on multiple projects, many of which were box office successes, including ‘Murder 2’, ‘Awarapan’ and ‘Raaz: The Mystery continues’.
Awarapan 2 release date and cast details revealed
The original film, directed by Mohit Suri, hit the screens nearly 19 years ago. The film’s sequel, now helmed by Nitin Kakkar, also features Disha Patani in an important role and is scheduled to release on August 14. Sharing the announcement on Instagram, the production house wrote: “Producer Vishesh Bhatt invites you to explore the world of Awarapan 2. Leave yourself free this Independence Day weekend and join us on August 14, 2026, Awarapan 2 in cinemas.”
