103, then fear: How serious is Vaibhav Suryavanshi's injury? RR coach provides update

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi caused a major scare for Rajasthan Royals during their IPL 2026 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad after he limped off the field soon after his record-breaking century.

RR’s batting coach gives an update on his injury. The 15-year-old appeared to suffer an injury while playing early in the second half. Positioned at the covers, Sooryavanshi sprinted to chase down a high shot from Ishan Kishan but stopped suddenly, clutching his right thigh. Clearly in discomfort, he had difficulty moving and had to be helped off the field by the team’s physiotherapist, raising immediate fears of a hamstring injury.Initial images indicated a possible hamstring strain, but later indications were more suggestive of severe spasms. After spending so long in grueling conditions, the physical stress, coupled with Jaipur’s sweltering heat, seems to have taken its toll on the young batsman. Before the injury scare, Sooryavanshi had delivered a stunning knock, smashing 103 off just 37 balls, including 12 sixes and five fours at a stunning strike rate of 278.38, one of the most explosive innings of IPL 2026.

Providing an update, RR batting coach Vikram Rathore downplayed the seriousness of the issue:“He was feeling something in his hamstring, but now he seems fine. He has been treated and is doing well. We will know more in a day or so, but it doesn’t look serious,” Vikram confirmed.Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad mounted a stunning 229-run chase to defeat Rajasthan Royals by five wickets, buoyed by a devastating 132-run stand between Abhishek Sharma (57 off 29) and Ishan Kishan (74 off 31).

Both batsmen reached their fifties in just 24 balls, making a mockery of the steep target despite wasting two chances early in the innings.Even after both were dismissed, contributions from Heinrich Klaassen (29) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (36*) ensured that SRH completed the chase with nine balls to spare.Earlier, 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi stole the show with 103 off 37 balls, supported by Dhruv Jurel (51). However, his dismissal halted RR’s momentum, and a total of 228/6 proved insufficient on a batting-friendly surface.
