The director is expanding the story into an episodic format for a digital platform.

In an interview with The Week, Johar spoke about the film’s reception and the reactions it provoked.“We’re actually turning it into a feature-length series,” he said. “The original of this movie, of course, was released in 2006 to very polarized reactions. I’ve had a lot of people come up to me and ask if I was sick after that movie, because they said, ‘How can you endorse infidelity?’ And I was like, ‘How can you endorse something that’s already sold out?’

He also remembered a theatrical moment that stayed with him.

“I still remember when I was watching the film with the audience a day before its release.

There was a very traditional couple watching the movie, and there was a moment where SRK and Rani entered the hotel room. The lady, who had come with her husband, turned to him dramatically, and said very softly: “It is a dream scene.” After five minutes, they realized it wasn’t a dream sequence, then they got up and left.

Then I realized that we’re in a very polarized audience space, where people judge what’s going on in their homes, forget it, sweep it under the rug, but don’t want to see it on celluloid, even though it’s probably reality in their homes. He also added about the series: “So we are doing a series, a feature-length show for the platform, which I can’t give you a lot of details about right now, but it will be released soon.”Karan Johar also confirmed the return of his talk show in the same interaction. When asked, he said, “This year, Diwali, the ninth season.”

About “Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna”

‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’ is considered one of Johar’s most experimental and mainstream films. It directly addressed infidelity and emotional dissatisfaction in relationships.Despite a strong cast led by Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukerji, the film received mixed response upon its release. However, over time, it gained recognition as a multi-layered novel.
