'Greenland 2: The Migration': Gerard Butler on post-apocalyptic films and themes: 'Sometimes it's just about hanging on'

“Greenland 2: Migration” has officially arrived on OTT platforms around the world, and it seems fans can’t get enough of the post-apocalyptic “Greenland” sequel. Most recently, the film’s lead actor, Gerard Butler, also known for his work in the film ‘P.S.’.

I Love You, Law Abiding Citizen, and Olympus Has Fallen talked about working on the film, its experience, and the kind of themes it follows. Plus, star Morena Baccarin, known for Sheriff Country and The Wrecking Crew, added what she thought about the film and what she felt while filming it as well.

Gerard Butler talks about the movie Greenland 2

While speaking with News18 Showsha in a recent interview, Butler looked back on the ‘Greenland’ series and spoke candidly about what it was like to work on the thriller.

He opened up about how the one thing he loves most about the film is that it relies on hope even when times are tough and life throws you curveball after curveball.“That message of hope, no matter how bad things may seem, sometimes you just have to hold on to it,” he said. “Sometimes it felt like they lost hope, or that hope was just a little glimmer, but sometimes it’s just about holding on to it.” Moreover, he noted that the film explores such themes and shows how just having some hope, or just holding on to it for a longer period, can go a long way and save you in the face of obstacles and issues.

“Just having a little bit of faith that you’re going to get through this, or that things are going to brighten up one way or another, that there’s some kind of light at the end of the tunnel — it’s just don’t die, just don’t give up,” he added.

Morena Baccarin also talks about working on Greenland 2

Talking about working in the film, the actress revealed that since the plot of the second film revolves around living in a basement for over 5 years, she gained a lot of experience from the pandemic. She recalled what it was like to remain under complete lockdown during the Covid-19 pandemic, and how she drew parallels to give a touch of reality to the film.“We faced this pandemic, right, to capitalize on it. I know what happened to my kids during that time and the way people develop emotionally differently under those circumstances. So we were trying to borrow from that for this movie,” she cited.

Plot “Greenland 2: Migration”

A sequel to the 2020 release, “Greenland 2” follows the story of the Garrity family as they have to leave the bunker behind where they have been living for the past 5 years. With Earth’s unstable environment and uninhabitable bunker, the family is forced to traverse Europa in search of a new home while dealing with the fallout from the interstellar event that wiped out most of civilization.
