Kate Hudson has always known how to hold her own in a room full of men. As the only girl in the Hawn Russell family, growing up alongside brothers Oliver Hudson, Wyatt Russell, and Boston Russell, she learned early how to navigate male-dominated spaces.
Add to that Goldie Hawn’s famous mother who raised her to be outspoken and unapologetic, and it’s no wonder she was the perfect choice to play a strong woman running an all-male basketball franchise. Speaking with FilmInk about Season 2 of Running Point, Hudson was thoughtful, candid and animated by the material.
What is Kate Hudson thinking? Women in power ?
Hudson has thought a lot about how women operate in high-stakes, male-dominated environments, and she’s not shy about saying what she thinks.
“I don’t like to generalize, because you always find yourself biting your tongue, but I think women are great at strategy. I think actually, we see really long-term. We have a great ability to see the big picture,” she said.Regarding the pressures women face to stay at the top, she was equally frank. “I think to be able to stay on top as a woman, it takes a certain amount of ambition, desire and focus. I would say, all you have to do is double down.
These are the things that I think people don’t realize, which is systemic sexism. Sometimes, women do that to women. “Our jobs have much higher risks.”“Women might have a chance or two to stay at the top, and you can’t make any mistakes,” Hudson added. “And for a woman to head a sports franchise? Sure, the stakes are high. They’re very high.”
What happens in Season 2 of Running Point?
Season 2 begins with Hudson Island’s Isla Gordon the surprise choice to captain the Los Angeles Waves.
And with the series finally rebounding from last season’s scandal, Isla is determined to prove she’s not just keeping the seat warm for her brother Cam, played by Justin Theroux. What she doesn’t know is that Cam is quietly maneuvering behind the scenes to regain his position, turning every mistake into ammunition. As she tries to balance the pressure of running a franchise with her personal life, every decision on and off the field carries weight.
In order to survive the family power plays and board scrutiny, she will have to completely shred last season’s game plan.
Kate Hudson on Sibling rivalry And competition
When asked if she had ever experienced this kind of rivalry in her own life, Hudson was clear. “I’ve never been able to compete,” said Hudson, 47. “For me, the arts are an impossible place to compete, and you just have to be so focused on what you’re trying to do.” “The most counterintuitive thing you can do in Hollywood is be competitive.”
However, the best thing you can do in sports is to be competitive. It’s very linear.

Why is “Running Point” the most famous thing Kate Hudson has ever done?
Best known for films like “Almost Famous,” “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” and “Song Sung Blue,” Hudson says there’s nothing quite like the reach of “Running Point.” “I think this is the most special thing I’ve ever done. I walk down the street and people really know the show, and I’ve never had that before. The show in their homes. To be in your home and to be with your family in the comfort of your walls and to be able to enjoy and watch a show that everyone can be a part of and laugh at? That’s an incredible feeling.”

What Kate Hudson said about working with Mindy Kaling ?
As an executive producer on the show, Hudson speaks of co-creator Mindy Kaling with genuine admiration. “Mindy has been doing this for a while and she’s earned it on all cylinders. She’s so good, so smart, so available. She’s also incredibly generous,” she said.Hudson added, “Mindy has literally been in 1,000 different places, and she still manages to do it all. On top of that, being a great mother. I find her to be a very special person. I’m so lucky to be able to work with her.”Season 2 of Running Point is currently streaming on Netflix.
