Iran admits 'strategic mistake' over nuclear issue at negotiation table in Pakistan

An Iranian MP talks about peace talks in Pakistan

A member of the Iranian parliamentary National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, Mahmoud Nabavian, criticized the recent negotiations with the United States held in Pakistan, describing the decision to raise Tehran’s nuclear program as a “strategic mistake.”

In a video clip shared from an interview with SNN TV and later published on Channel X, Nabavian said that putting the Iranian nuclear issue on the table during the talks in Pakistan had weakened Tehran’s position. “In the Pakistani negotiations, we made a strategic mistake. We should not have brought up the nuclear issue for negotiation,” he said, adding that “by doing so, the enemy became more emboldened,” as translated by ANI.

According to Nabavian, Washington has demanded that Iran’s stockpile of 60 percent enriched uranium be removed and frozen for 20 years. Conditions that he said Tehran rejected.Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump struck a defiant tone and downplayed pressure to end the ongoing conflict. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he was in no rush to reach a deal and warned that time was working against Iran.“I have all the time in the world, but Iran doesn’t – the clock is ticking,” he wrote, stressing that Iran’s military capabilities have severely deteriorated and that the blockade imposed on the country is still firmly in place.

He added that any agreement will not be finalized unless it is in line with the interests of the United States and the interests of its allies.Separately, a Politico report noted that during hearings on Capitol Hill, senior US officials avoided committing to a timetable for easing energy prices. Some Republican lawmakers have indicated that the 60-day period in the conflict could be crucial in determining their continued support.
