However, Amit Jogi, president of the Chhattisgarh Janata Congress (J), which was founded by his late father, has been acquitted of the charges.

A bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta and Vijay Bishnoi took note of the submissions of senior advocates Vivek Tanka and Kapil Sibal, appearing on behalf of Jogi, while maintaining his conviction and judgment in the case.

Senior advocates Siddharth Luthra and Gopal Sankaranarayanan, representing a family member of the victim, opposed the submission.

While pending the HC judgement, the apex court also issued notice to the CBI on Jogi’s confession.

Jogi moved the Supreme Court against the apex court ruling.

The Supreme Court had reopened proceedings in the 2003 murder case last month following directions from the Supreme Court on the appeal filed by the CBI.

The case, which was initially investigated by the state police, was later transferred to the CBI, which filed a chargesheet against several accused, including Amit Jogi.

Jaggi was killed on June 4, 2003, when Ajit Jogi was Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh.
