She remembered their humble living conditions, her mother’s hard work, and their struggles. Yasmine credited her parents’ sacrifices for her success and her father’s subsequent career as a legal translator.

Singer Jasmine Sandellas recently spoke about the difficult transition her family went through after moving from India to the United States, as she spoke candidly about her father’s sacrifices and struggles in the early years.

The ‘Dhurandhar’ singer shared how their lives took a drastic turn after the move. Although her father had a respectable job in India, he had to rebuild everything from the ground up in the United States to support his family.

In a conversation with Mid-day, Jasmine Sandlass recalled her father’s journey, saying, “When we were living in India, my father had a high-profile job…and he was a valedictorian in law school.” After moving to the United States, survival became a higher priority than status.

She said her father had to do manual labor at a gas station. She added: “His first job was at a gas station, pumping gas… and he sacrificed his entire life,” stressing how he gave up a life of comfort and respect in order to secure a better future for his children.

Yasmine talked about the difficult and humbling circumstances they lived in during those first years. “We lived in a one-bedroom apartment…there were six of us,” she said, adding that they relied on food stamps to meet their daily needs.

The experience had a strong impact on her, especially as she tried to settle in a new country without knowing the English language. She also spoke about her mother’s role and said that her parents worked tirelessly to support the family.

“My mother also worked…as a hard worker,” she added, highlighting the difficulties they faced physically and emotionally.

Even after years of struggle, her father managed to rebuild his career. He eventually became a legal translator, translating Punjabi into English in court, providing the family with greater financial stability. Sandlass also worked briefly in the same field. Their perseverance not only carried the family through difficult times but also paved the way for their rise in the music industry.
