Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan’s horror-comedy ‘Bhooth Bangla’ may be just the beginning of a whole series. After the encouraging response from the family audiences since its release on April 17, the makers are now reportedly exploring a sequel to the film.

According to an India Today report, the positive reception of ‘Bhooth Bangla’ has set the wheels in motion. “Given the love and response ‘Bhooth Bangla’ has received from families, the makers are definitely exploring the idea of taking the franchise forward. It’s an exciting space and hence a sequel seems to be on the cards,” the report said.

While the project is still at an early stage, producer Ekta Kapoor’s keenness on the horror-comedy genre is said to be the main driver.
The report added that she was “looking forward to a world to return to with more stories.”

The film follows Arjun, played by Akshay Kumar, who inherits a haunted ancestral mansion in the fictional village of Mangalpur. As he prepares for the wedding of his sister Meera, portrayed by Mithila Palkar, a series of disturbing supernatural events leads to chaos. At the heart of the mystery is Vadhusur, an evil demon linked to a forgotten underground temple.
As Arjun digs into the dark history of the palace, he encounters frightened villagers and a mysterious spirit trapped in a tree. The film draws its horror from Indian mythology, folklore and ancient ritual texts while remaining true to Priyadarshan’s brand of slapstick and high-energy comedy.

Akshay Kumar plays the role of Arjun Acharya, while Wamiqa Gabbi appears as Priya. The cast also includes Tabu as Yashoda, Paresh Rawal as Jagdish Manickchand Rupkamal Kewalramani, and Rajpal Yadav as Sunder “Bali” Bajwa. Jisshu Sengupta, Manoj Joshi and late veteran actor Asrani complete the cast.The film was released in theaters on April 17, 2026. So far, it has collected Rs 117 crore at the box office globally.
