The incident occurred when Mahajan was addressing reporters at the ‘Nari Shakti Vandhan Adhiniyam’ rally, which was organized to target the opposition parties over the defeat of the Constitution Amendment Bill, which aims to speed up the implementation of 33 per cent reservation for women in legislative bodies, in the Lok Sabha.

Videos surfaced on social media on Tuesday showing the woman reacting angrily to the traffic jam caused by the demonstration, asking the BJP MLA to “get out” of there.

“Get out of here. You’re causing a traffic jam,” she said, wondering why the march was not held in an open space nearby instead of disrupting vehicular movement.

The woman’s videos quickly went viral online, sparking mixed reactions, including criticism of the BJP’s protest tactics.

The video clips also showed Mahajan trying to calm the woman down, who in turn continued her tirade, saying: “Don’t you understand? What’s wrong with you? There are hundreds of people waiting.”

When a police official intervened, she backed down, refused to participate, and asked not to be spoken to.

Another video showed long queues of vehicles due to traffic congestion caused by the protest march.

“If the BJP was so keen on organizing a rally, it should have been held at Varsha Pangalu and the places where ministers are staying. Why should common people suffer for the selfish interests of the BJP?” One X user wrote, sharing the video of the traffic jam.

Congress criticizes BJP’s ‘drama’

Maharashtra Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal shared the clip, alleging that the ruling party’s campaign on women’s reservation has revealed its “true face”.

He accused the BJP of misleading women for political gain and using the issue as a tool to push a “false narrative”.

Sapkal further claimed that the opposition alliance has already thwarted the BJP’s “attempt to change the constitutional and electoral processes under the guise of reservation”, alleging that the saffron party is now resorting to rallies and propaganda to revive the issue.

“As part of the nationwide tamasha initiated by the BJP under the guise of women’s reservation, the BJP organized a protest march at Jamboree Maidan in Worli against the opposition parties,” Nationalist Congress Party’s Maharashtra wing vice-president – Sharadchandra Pawar Yogesh Sawant said in a post on X.

“Due to this rally, there was a huge traffic jam at the site. A woman was stuck in the traffic jam for several hours. This woman confronted the BJP leaders at the rally and questioned them. She even brought down the dignity of Minister Girish Mahajan!” he said.

Former state Congress president Nana Patuli also posted the video, saying ordinary citizens were being harassed due to the BJP’s “drama”.

He said women’s anger reflects growing public frustration, asserting that women across the country would similarly reject the BJP in the future.
