YouTuber and journalist Sarah Gonzalez from Texas, who recently made headlines after claiming to have busted H-1B abuse in her state, dropped a controversial post on social media, sparking widespread backlash.
Gonzalez said she took her five-year-old to a park in Plano. But her son couldn’t make friends because all the children playing in the park spoke multiple foreign languages. “This is my city. It is unrecognizable. I want my country back,” Gonzalez wrote. “We are surrounded by foreigners, and we speak multiple foreign languages, which makes it difficult for my son to make friends,” she said. Indian-origin Democratic leader Pooja Sethi, who is running for Texas House District 47, declined, saying she also wants her country back.
“I want my country back too,” Sethi replied. “The one before divisive and political posts like this were written, and when neighbors and kids in the park weren’t treated as a threat.”
Activist Vimal Patel pointed out the absurdity of Sarah Gonzalez’s claims and said that, as a mother of three, she realizes that no child under the age of five begins to speak their parents’ language fluently in the United States. “I have three children, all under the age of five, who are top students in their school.
None of them speak the language I speak to my mother. They speak English even at home! So don’t bring hatred to children. Get help. Get healed.
“This is my country too 🇺🇸 be a good citizen,” Patel wrote, and Sarah said she wasn’t making up what she was listening to in the park. “5 year olds don’t care about deep rooted hate. I have a 6 year old, and we live in Plano. These kids get along with everyone. You are the problem. While you were on that playground, you only hated Indians,” another wrote, with many reminding Sarah that Gonzalez’s surname reveals she’s not American either.
