He said in a post on X that the trade deal would be a “win-win” for both countries.

“The Indian trade delegation will arrive in Washington this week. It is a great step to finalize our bilateral trade agreement. A win-win for both countries!” He said.

India and the US are set to resume negotiations on the proposed bilateral trade agreement (BTA) in Washington DC.

Commerce Minister Rajesh Agrawal, who shared Indian trade data for March earlier this month, had said that the Indian delegation will visit the US from April 20-22.

He stated that negotiations on the free trade agreement will resume this month, which represents a major step in strengthening trade relations between the two countries.

On February 7 this year, India and the United States announced that they had reached a framework for an interim agreement on reciprocal and mutually beneficial trade.

The framework reaffirms the countries’ commitment to the broader negotiations of the US-India bilateral trade agreement, launched by President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 13, 2025, which will include additional commitments to market access and support more resilient supply chains, the statement said.

She also said that the interim agreement between the United States and India will mark a historic milestone in the partnership between the two countries, demonstrating a shared commitment to reciprocal and balanced trade based on mutual interests and tangible results.

The Commerce Minister had said last month that India remains engaged with the United States to reach a mutually beneficial trade agreement.

He said: “On February 7, 2026, the additional 25% customs duties imposed by the United States on some Indian exports, under the pretext of India’s imports of Russian oil, were cancelled.”

He also said that according to the US Supreme Court’s February 20, 2026 ruling invalidating the reciprocal tariffs, the reciprocal tariffs are no longer in effect.

“The US government has issued executive orders imposing 10% tariffs under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974 on certain products of all countries. India remains engaged with the US side towards reaching a mutually beneficial trade agreement,” he said.

The sources said that the United States is trying to re-establish the tariff structure globally, and once that is established, it would be better to sign the trade deal.

They added that the trade agreement will be signed when the United States implements a new tariff structure globally.

Commerce Ministry officials had said in March that India and the US remain engaged in reaching a mutually beneficial trade agreement, and there is no delay in bilateral engagement.
