Some frightened passengers cried and began to pray for their safety.

The flight, which left Hyderabad around 3.30 pm, was scheduled to land in Hubballi around 4.30 pm, but was unable to do so due to bad weather conditions, sources said.

“Due to inclement weather conditions, the flight from Hyderabad to Hubballi has been diverted to Bengaluru,” an airport official said, adding that such a diversion is a standard safety procedure.

According to the official, the plane flew over Habali for about an hour in anticipation of improved weather conditions before it was diverted.

“This is general practice. Planes fly in the air for some time, waiting for the weather to improve. It is the pilot’s decision,” he said.

The flight later landed in Bengaluru around 6.30 pm and returned to Hubballi around 11 pm after weather conditions improved, the official added.

The sources said that the plane was carrying 22 passengers.

Officials also reported similar disruptions in the area, noting that another flight from Mumbai to Kolhapur was diverted to Goa due to weather conditions.

“All passengers are fine. There is no problem,” the official said.
