In a recent interaction with Humans of Bombay, Jeera spoke candidly about a past relationship that left a lasting impact on him, explaining why he has since chosen to remain guarded, including his choice to stay away from marriage.

“There was a time when I was so deeply in love. And after that, I never wanted to go back. I don’t want to make anyone so important that they have the power to hurt me,” he said.Sharing his perspective on relationships, he added: “I feel like women are moving forward. Some people are just players, and it doesn’t affect them.”He also addressed the idea of desire with humor, saying, “Even before Durandar, I used to attract the attention of women. Now I look like my uncle.”
From dancer to TV introduction
Long before his recent success, Jira’s journey into the entertainment industry began with dance. “I started as a dancer, and that was my source of income,” he recalls.Within a year of moving to Mumbai, he got his first TV show Life Nahi Ladoo, where he played the lead role. “It was prime time, on a major channel, and it was my first show in its own right. I feel very lucky,” he said.Working alongside seasoned actors like Manoj Pahwa and Sanjay Mishra, Gera described the experience as warm and enlightening.
“We filmed as a family. I was 23, and they treated me very well.”He continued to appear in shows like Sanskriti, before a major turning point came with Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin, one of the most popular shows of the early 2000s. Here he formed a close relationship with co-star Mona Singh. He said: “Here I met Mona, and our friendship began, and we are still friends.”

Ahead of the digital curve
Jira also revealed that he ventured into digital content long before it became popular.
“I started creating content in 2010, when people didn’t even have smartphones,” he said, adding that he later took a pause due to his busy schedule across television and theatre.He was also part of the musical Jhumroo in Kingdom of Dreams, describing it as a Broadway-like experience. He balances multiple commitments, “After five days I will be shooting in Bombay for TV, and on weekends I will be in Gurgaon for Jhumroo,” he said, while also working on shows like Tota Weds Maina and Pammi Pyarelal.
“I needed this”
Speaking about the appreciation he received after Dhurandhar: The Revenge, Jeera admitted that it had a positive impact on his self-confidence.“After Durandar, I started getting more respect. Even now, people don’t recognize me much, but my self-esteem is better. I needed that,” he said.The film, which was released on March 19, continues its strong run at the box office, with a reported total of Rs 1,105.82 crore nett in India, and a global gross approaching Rs 1,741.73 crore. Dhurandhar has become a mega franchise, with the combined collections of both parts crossing Rs 3,000 crore.
