Juilliard has appointed an interim leadership team for its drama school, including former faculty members and artistic advisor Laura Linney.

This interim plan, which will take effect at the end of this academic year, comes as Evan Yonoulis concludes her eight-year tenure as Richard Rodgers Dean and Director of Drama and moves on to head the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale University. A search committee is currently being established to find the next permanent dean.

Ara Gozelimian, who was dean at Juilliard from 2007 to 2020 and previously was director and artistic advisor at Carnegie Hall, will take over and return as the Richard Rodgers interim dean and director of the drama department.

Faculty members Richard Feldman and Jenny Lord and alumnus Jimon Cole will serve together as interim associate deans and directors, working with students in the first three years of landscape study and providing technical support and student guidance for the upcoming academic year.

Lenny, a Juilliard trustee and drama alumnus, will serve as artistic advisor to the drama department.

“As we begin the search for a new Richard Rodgers Dean and Director of the Department of Drama, I have great appreciation for each of our interim leaders for their dedication, expertise, and shared commitment to enhancing the department’s legacy of artistic excellence,” said Dean Adam Meyer. “Ara brings a deep knowledge of the department and the school as a whole to this unique moment of transition; Richard, Jenny and Simone all have a deep understanding of their profession and a clear focus on the needs of students; and Laura will provide critical technical guidance to interim leadership.”
