The exact dates and schedule of the 18th BRICS summit scheduled to be held in India are not yet known.

The theme of India’s BRICS presidency this year is “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”, which reflects a people-centred approach that puts humanity first as articulated by Prime Minister Modu at the 2025 Rio Summit. Prior to this, India hosted the 13th BRICS Summit on September 9, 2021, with the theme “BRICS 15 Years Later: Intra-BRICS Cooperation for Continuity, Consolidation and Consensus”.

Putin’s second visit in a year

Putin’s upcoming visit to India to attend the BRICS summit, as confirmed by the Kremlin spokesman, will be his second in one year. Earlier, the Russian President visited India during the first week of December 2025 to attend the 23rd Annual India-Russia Summit at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi.

During that visit, the two leaders reaffirmed their support for further strengthening the special and distinguished strategic partnership between India and Russia.

They also discussed the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, with Prime Minister Modi calling for a peaceful end to the war through means of dialogue and diplomacy.

During the visit, India and Russia signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the ports and shipping sector, and also agreed to deepen cooperation in building stable and efficient transport corridors.
